I am an immigrant, so continuing with my “Made in the USA” series, which investigates my identity as an American, numbers 33 & 34 are entitled “Golden Borders, and Hatred Led Us Here”,“Golden Borders, Massacre in El Paso.” I think about my identity of being an American, but also someone who immigrated to the United States in my formative years and became a United State citizen within these golden borders.
To expand and provide a bit of diversity for my “Made in the USA” series, I started with creating work numbers 33 and 34 with newspaper articles taken from the New York Times, the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal covering the shooting in El Paso, Texas. I also used acrylic paint, fabric and collaged these art-making materials together on canvas.
The articles/text used within this work bring forth the recent shootings of immigrants in El Paso, Texas by a white male white supremacist who in his hatred of immigrants, particularly Mexican immigrants, shot and killed at least 20 people and wounded 26 others. I send my condolences to those families that suffered lost of a loved-one in this recent senseless and hateful shooting.

Love Triumphs over Hate!
